Early life & education
Shri B. Nagendra was born on 15 September 1971 in Bellary, a city whose history is inseparable from the iron-rich soil of north Karnataka and the everyday lives of its farmers, weavers and miners. His upbringing in the district gave him an early, first-hand understanding of the challenges that rural and semi-urban Bellary faces — limited irrigation, uneven access to schooling, and the long-felt need for better roads and basic services.
He completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Veerashaiva College, Bellary — affiliated with Gulbarga University — in 1993. His formal education in commerce, paired with his lived experience of the district, gave him the grounding he would later carry into public life.
Stepping into public life
Politics, for Shri Nagendra, was less a career choice than a continuation of community work. Through the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was active in social initiatives across Ballari district — particularly around farmer welfare, youth engagement and infrastructure advocacy. By the mid-2000s, this work led to his entry into formal electoral politics.
Four terms, one mandate
Shri Nagendra was first elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 2008, representing the Kudligi constituency in Ballari district. He was re-elected from Kudligi in 2013 and went on to win the Bellary Rural seat in 2018 and again in 2023 — making him a four-time legislator from the district.
In May 2023, he was inducted into the Karnataka cabinet as Minister of Youth Services & Sports and Minister for Scheduled Tribes Welfare under the Second Siddaramaiah ministry — a role that allowed him to bring rural Bellary's concerns directly to the State government's policy table.
Family & values
Outside public office, Shri Nagendra is deeply rooted in the cultural and religious traditions of north Karnataka. His values — service before self, sangha (community) over individual gain, and seva (selfless work) — were shaped by his family and the village ethos of Ballari, and continue to guide his work today.
The road ahead
Bellary Rural is changing — faster than ever. New schools, new highways, new opportunities. Shri Nagendra's stated mission is to make sure that no village is left behind in that change. From every government scheme to every new road, the test he applies is simple: does this help the people of my constituency live a better life?
